About the Role
We are seeking a Substance Misuse Nurse to join our dedicated multidisciplinary team.
In this role, you’ll provide and supervise the delivery of high standards of nursing care for the treatment and support of individuals experiencing substance dependency.
Working both autonomously and collaboratively, you will deliver holistic, evidence-based care, ensuring that all interventions meet national clinical guidelines, Forward Trust policies, and the highest standards of professional practice.
You’ll play a key role in medical assessments, detoxification monitoring, crisis intervention, and ongoing physical and psychological health support , all within a health improvement and recovery-focused framework.
Key Responsibilities
As a Substance Misuse Nurse, you will:
- Deliver comprehensive nursing assessments and brief interventions for clients presenting with substance misuse issues
- Support clients through medically assisted detoxification and ongoing treatment regimes, monitoring progress and wellbeing
- Work within a multidisciplinary team including GPs, psychiatrists, recovery workers, and counsellors
- Provide crisis intervention and triage for medical assessment where required
- Ensure the safe storage, administration, and recording of medicines, including controlled drugs
- Maintain accurate clinical records in accordance with professional and organisational standards
- Promote health improvement and behaviour change, encouraging clients toward healthier, more sustainable lifestyles
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity at all times
- Participate in supervision, reflective practice, and ongoing professional development
About You
We are looking for a skilled and compassionate registered nurse who is committed to providing high-quality care in the field of substance misuse and recovery.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Registered Nurse (NMC PIN required)
- Sound clinical knowledge and the ability to work autonomously within a multidisciplinary team
- Strong assessment and risk management skills
- Experience in key working and care planning
- Understanding of the Recovery Model (including 12-Step approaches)
- Awareness of health issues relating to substance misuse
- Robust knowledge of medication administration, including controlled drugs and medication rounds
- Excellent time management, organisational, and IT skills
- Demonstrable experience of accurate record-keeping and compliance with clinical standards
- Ability to treat service users with dignity, respect, and empathy, building constructive therapeutic relationships
- Understanding of infection control and health & safety reporting procedures
- Evidence of ongoing professional development since qualification
