  • About The Role

  • Forward Trust is seeking a motivated and compassionate Recovery Worker to join our integrated healthcare team, supporting adults (18+) with substance use needs.

    You will provide client-centred treatment using both harm reduction and abstinence-based approaches, depending on individual needs. Managing a caseload, you’ll deliver structured 1:1 sessions, group work, and treatment programmes to support people in achieving sustainable recovery.

    A key part of the role is working collaboratively with partner agencies such as housing, employment, healthcare, probation, and community organisations to ensure service users receive holistic support. You will also contribute to Forward Trust and local commissioner outcome targets, including the measurement of client progress.

    Flexibility is important in this role, which may occasionally involve evening or weekend shifts to maintain continuity of care.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage a caseload of service users, providing appropriate harm reduction advice and guidance.
    • Complete comprehensive assessments, risk management plans, and SMART care plans.
    • Deliver structured 1:1 and group interventions, including therapeutic treatment programmes.
    • Facilitate throughcare and integration with housing, employment, healthcare, probation, and other community services.
    • Maintain accurate records, contribute to outcome reporting, and work closely with partner agencies.
    • Promote and model equality, diversity, and inclusion within all aspects of service delivery.

    What We’re Looking For 

    Ideally you will have: 
    • Experience of working in substance misuse services.
    • Experience conducting assessments, risk management, and care planning.
    • Experience delivering structured interventions and facilitating groups.
    • Skilled in motivational interviewing (1:1 and group settings).
    • Strong IT skills and confidence with electronic record systems.
    • Understanding of continuity of care, holistic needs, and community services.
    • Experience promoting equality and diversity.
    • Knowledge of issues facing people with substance use needs.
    • Understanding of the Recovery Agenda and safeguarding.
    • Commitment to the 12-step process of recovery from addiction.
    • Knowledge of community support services and the criminal justice sector.
    • Previous experience working in a community or prison setting.
    • Experience utilising clinical supervision.
    • Awareness of NHS health and wellbeing outcomes.
