About the Role
Are you passionate about supporting people to make positive changes in their lives? Are you looking to develop a rewarding career supporting individuals affected by drug and alcohol use?
We are looking for a motivated and compassionate Trainee Drug and Alcohol Practitioner to join our team at Hull ReNew on a 12-month fixed-term contract.
This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience, develop your skills and work towards a nationally recognised qualification, subject to eligibility criteria. You will receive structured training, guidance, mentoring and supervision from experienced colleagues to support your development and help you build the knowledge and confidence needed to become a competent practitioner.
As part of the traineeship, you will shadow an experienced team member and learn about the different aspects of the role within your assigned business unit. You will divide your time between practical, hands-on experience and studying towards your qualification. Regular reviews will help monitor your progress, identify development needs and ensure you remain on track to successfully complete the traineeship. You will also be required to undertake compulsory therapy as part of the programme.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the planning and management of a caseload, ensuring work is organised effectively and completed within agreed deadlines.
- Assisting with initial, risk and comprehensive assessments to identify individual needs and inform appropriate treatment plans and interventions.
- Supporting service users to develop recovery plans that reflect their needs and goals.
- Reviewing ongoing care and treatment, working collaboratively with healthcare professionals and other agencies.
- Co-facilitating groups, programmes and interventions, including one-to-one sessions, in line with required standards.
- Contributing to effective multidisciplinary and integrated working to support positive outcomes for service users.
- Developing skills in data collection and recording to support audit, research and reporting requirements.
- Developing the competencies required to undertake the second signatory process.
- Carrying out other reasonable duties as directed by your line manager.
Throughout the traineeship, you will be supported to develop the skills, knowledge and professional practice required for a future career in drug and alcohol services.
About You
We are looking for someone who is committed to helping others, eager to learn and passionate about supporting people on their recovery journey.
You will bring a compassionate, non-judgemental approach to your work, with the ability to build positive professional relationships and recognise the individual needs of vulnerable adults.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A commitment to learning and development: You must be willing to work towards completing a nationally recognised qualification, subject to the relevant criteria.
- Understanding of recovery: You should understand the needs of vulnerable adults who are in recovery and may have experience of offending or homelessness.
- Personal recovery commitment (if applicable): If you are in recovery from addiction, you must have maintained abstinence from all substances for over two years and be committed to maintaining your recovery.
- Organisation and time management: You will be able to manage your workload effectively, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines and targets.
- Professional boundaries: You will understand the importance of maintaining appropriate professional relationships and boundaries.
- Communication skills: You will have good verbal and written communication skills and be able to work effectively with colleagues, service users and partner agencies.
- Equality and confidentiality: You will demonstrate a commitment to equal opportunities, respect diversity and maintain client confidentiality.
You do not need to know everything from day one. What matters is your willingness to learn, take on feedback, develop your skills and contribute positively to the team.
