We are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and skilled Substance
Misuse Recovery Worker to join our team and support adults aged 18 and over
experiencing drug and/or alcohol issues. This role is based in a community setting
, delivering psychosocial interventions and working collaboratively with a wide
range of partner services.
You will be responsible for managing a caseload of
clients, developing and delivering structured one-to-one and group-based
interventions, and working in a person centred way that promotes both harm
reduction and abstinence-based approaches, depending on individual client
needs.
This role requires flexible working, including occasional
evenings/weekends and the ability to travel within your service cluster to
ensure continuity of care for clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out risk, initial, and comprehensive assessments to inform individual treatment journeys.
- Deliver evidence-based interventions, including 1:1 sessions and group programmes.
- Develop SMART care plans and regularly review and update them in line with client progress.
- Work collaboratively with external partners (e.g. Housing, Healthcare, Employment, Probation, Social Care, and CRCs) to support holistic client recovery.
- Monitor client progress and wellbeing, contributing to through-care and aftercare planning.
- Provide appropriate harm reduction advice and support, including safer drug use, overdose prevention, and sexual health.
- Refer clients to and liaise with external support services to meet broader social needs (housing, benefits, employment, family support, etc.).
- Support achievement of service and commissioner targets, including measurable recovery outcomes.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records using electronic systems.

Skills & Experience
- Experience working in substance misuse or a similar client-facing role.
- Experience conducting comprehensive assessments and managing risk.
- Proven ability to deliver structured interventions and facilitate group work.
- Skilled in motivational interviewing and client engagement techniques.
- Strong IT and administrative skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Understanding of holistic recovery and continuity of care.
- Experience promoting and supporting equality, diversity, and inclusion in practice.
Additional Information
Flexibility is essential — occasional evening/weekend work may be required.The role may involve travel to other local service sites to ensure continuity of care for clients.
Enhanced DBS check will be required prior to appointment.
