We’re looking for a Trainee Health and Wellbeing Practitioner to join our team at HMP Send. This full-time (35 hours) role offers the chance to gain hands-on experience, structured training and a recognised qualification (subject to criteria), all while making a real difference within a prison setting.
You’ll be assigned to a dedicated service unit and supported throughout your traineeship by an experienced team member. Through structured mentoring, regular reviews and practical learning, you’ll develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to become fully competent in your role.
What you’ll be doing:
- Shadowing experienced practitioners in a live service environment
- Carrying out risk, initial and comprehensive assessments
- Supporting service users to shape personalised treatment and release plans
- Delivering 1:1 interventions and co-facilitating group programmes
- Planning and managing your caseload effectively
- Reviewing ongoing care alongside healthcare professionals and partner agencies
- Accurately collecting and recording data for audit, research and reporting
You’ll develop skills in:
- Substance misuse and mental health group facilitation
- Understanding KPIs and contributing to service targets
- Integrated, multi-disciplinary working
- Maintaining high-quality, audit-ready case documentation
- Risk awareness, safeguarding and confidentiality
- Second signatory processes and oral swab testing (where required)
This traineeship offers a structured and supportive development journey, combining practical, on-the-job experience.
You’ll receive regular progress reviews to ensure you stay on track, alongside dedicated mentoring to support your growth. As part of the programme, there is a compulsory therapy element, and as the service operates seven days a week, weekend working will be required on a rota basis.
